Makeover Monday – Kathryn
Since yesterday was a holiday I think today can totally count as Monday, Right? Let me introduce you to this beautiful woman, Kathryn. I cannot get over her gorgeous bone structure and perfect nose! Sprayed Tomas Self Tanning Mist: I wanted to give her a more summery glow because… well, we all know I’m obsessed with a tan, but also I wanted to match up her chest which makes everything look more natural. It’s very common for the face and the décolletage to be a different shade for various reasons. I like to start by bringing them closer together so I’m not fighting either one! Next I used Trust to fill in her brows a wee bit thicker and feather them a bit. On her eyes I dusted Basic into both top and bottom lash lines with the dome end of the I shadow everything brush. I love how this defines the eye without looking harsh. Sometimes I even drag it down a little further to create a faux-undereye circle, It sounds crazy but I swear it looks so pretty and natural! (I’ll show you what I mean if you’re interested!) I used Sabrina on her inner corner and brow […]

Three beauty things I avoid
If you’ve been following along here for very long you probably already know that I am not a big believer in beauty “rules”. I figure if you feel pretty that’s the goal and you’re reaching it. Rules need not apply. Buuuuut sometimes there are things that gain popularity that I think make life more complicated while also making me feel LESS pretty. So I’m calling a few of those out in this video! If you’ve got some of your own I’d love to hear about them!   Also I wanted to say thank you so much for all of your sweet comments on my last post. So happy you’re still here! Thank you so much for all of the kindness and support, always!

Well Hello!
After 6 years of blogging this has been my longest time away EVER! So far 2017 has been one of the most wonderful and crazily busy years of my life. After releasing our artist program, moving and just living the life that 2 toddlers, a 6 year old and a teenager involves I had to take a little break…which turned into a very long break! When I first started this blog it was strictly for makeup & beauty and as the years rolled by real life slipped in here and there but I always tried to keep it mostly about beauty because that’s what I’m good at and who wants to hear about my life all the time, amirite? The last couple of years I have posted less often because I found myself in kind of a tricky situation. I have always said that beauty is pretty dang simple. I have always preached that it doesn’t have to be a big part of your life. You don’t have to buy a billion products. I even made my own company that made it so simple and so quick and so few products to back up my whole philosophy and the truth is: […]

I kept trying to write this out and it just felt too impersonal so I made a video instead:) I hope you don’t mind!     Find more details HERE and be sure to join us HERE for the launch party on January 17th!

Monday Makeover – Allie
Allie and I have been friends for a long time. She is so beautiful and an amazing business woman. I’ve actually talked about Allie before when I discussed the artist who showed me how she could use filler to completely rid me of my under eye bags. Life changing I tell ya! I also recently had her try a little volume in my lips, super subtle so it wouldn’t be a huge difference (especially requested by Nick because he’s very vigilant about me looking like me:) I’ve really liked the smidge of extra volume! I know it bothers some to hear about people doing that kind of thing and some feel like it’s too vain or crosses the line. I just don’t feel that way. Certainly anyone can go overboard with vanity, materialism and self centeredness. I just don’t think this one thing is the indicator of that. I was distracted by my baggy under eyes in the morning, if I took a selfie and often when I sat in front of the mirror to do my makeup. I bought all the creams and slathered them on hoping for a change that never much came. Then one day a few years ago I got […]

#LightTheWorld
2016. Man, it’s been a rough year out there. For so many people for so many reasons. But…in the last few weeks I’ve seen something happening around me. I’ve seen so many people realizing that knowing the world isn’t fair, knowing that our leaders are flawed, knowing that people around us are hurting…that all of that knowledge can do more than just make our hearts ache and our blood boil. It can inspire us to ACT. To stop relying on anything or anyone else to make it better. That complaining about the darkness isn’t working and our only chance to beat it is with light. Our own light. And what more perfect season than this one for this change to begin? 25 ways in 25 days is a Christmas Advent Calendar of action and service, inspired by Christ to keep Him in our hearts everyday this month. I was so excited when I saw this and was already plotting all of the different way our family would participate. I know me though and I’ll need it on my phone if I’m going to be able to keep on top of it! So I made a google calendar in case any else is like […]

Makeover Monday – Kirsten
Kristen and I met way back in middle school! We have been keeping in touch ever since. A while back she started a podcast called Marvelous Moms Club, which I love listening to. She interviews women who have fun, inspiring or interesting stories that intertwine with motherhood. I have a weakness for true crime podcasts to having her episodes pop up on my feed is always a breath of fresh happy air! I was so honored to be featured on this weeks episodes! If you’re interested in hearing (there’s two parts one that aired today and one that will air on Wednesday) Here is the link. Hope it’s worth listening to! We decided we might as well round everything out with a little makeup time for her as well so I got the chance to paint on her beautiful face! I added some Tomas tanner to her face because I noticed that her chest was pretty tan and I wanted to match everything up nicely. I always love the way warm olive skin looks against dark brown eyes – such a beautiful combo! She already has gorgeous full brows so I didn’t do much there, just gave them a little […]

Wearing A Stole Over Street Clothes
Wuh-oh! I received an e-mail rant from a retired colleague who saw some photos on a Facebook page in conjunction with a conversation about wearing stoles over street clothes and begged me to, as she put it, “ride in on a white horse” and do something about what she considered outrageously inappropriate attire. I heard […]

The Right To Bare Arms: On Summer Sleeves
Let’s talk about our upper arms! Mine are floppy and fat and although I don’t mind going sleeveless to the beach or walking the dog or being a comfortable fat lady about town, I do recognize that most of the world thinks wobbly fat is gross. So until we’re all living in that special world […]

The Latest Hideosity in Skirt Styles
What in tarnation? I don’t know if slim and petite ladies are seeing this particular “cut” of skirt in their catalogs and on the rack lately, but PeaceBang has spotted it on the plus-size circuit and thinks it’s LUDICROUS. Why would a gal want a big chunk sliced out of her hemline like that? What […]

"After spending ages applying your makeup and ensuring your foundation is well blended, one of the..."
“

After spending ages applying your makeup and ensuring your foundation is well blended, one of the most frustrating things is shine and oil seeping through your makeup throughout the day.

The Prep

First up a primer can only do so much at combating oil and keeping your makeup on. If your skin is excessively oily you may need to look beneath the surface. Sometimes when the skin has become dehydrated and dry it goes into overload and starts producing loads of oil to compensate for any oil that it has lost (or is missing) Ditch the harsh foaming cleansers and switch to a cleansing oil (oil is attracted to oil so this will help decrease excess oil and re-hydrate your skin) and ensure you are using a moisturiser.

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer

This is my favourite primer for oilier skin-types as it controls oil well, helps makeup last and doesn’t negatively affect the application and appearance of your foundation. Simply smooth the primer over your skin, let it sit for a minute or two and move on to applying your foundation. Easy to use and lasting oil control, double win!

Becca Ever Matte

This one is at times a controversial product, some love it, others do not. The key with this product is not to quickly smooth it over the entire face as it will pill and cause foundation to apply unevenly. Instead,   take a tiny amount of product and gently pat and tap the product onto the areas where needed. I recommend that you apply this product to the areas where you have the most oil (such as the t-zone and chin)

*Maybelline Superstay 24H Primer

Now for a more budget friendly option. Drugstore brands are often lacking in the primer department, especially for oily skin but this is one that I’m really loving at the moment. Relatively underhyped (and unfortunately not available everywhere in the world) the Maybelline Superstay 24H Primer is like a drugstore version of the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. With the same fluid like texture (and colour) this primer is great at controlling oil and keeping makeup in place all day. I recommend using a combination of smoothing and patting techniques with this product, it sets very quickly!
